A Look at What’s Ahead
Georgia will welcome the Texas A&M Aggies to town for a three-game SEC series this weekend. The series kicks off under the lights at 6 p.m. Friday. The first 200 fans receive a free t-shirt. Saturday’s game will also begin at 6 and will air on SEC Network. Georgia softball great Kim Wendland will be recognized for her induction into the Circle of Honor Saturday. The series finale is slated for 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Let’s Recap
Georgia bounced back over the weekend to earn four wins in two days of the UGA Classic. The Bulldogs run ruled Dartmouth 11-2 then shutout Illinois 5-0 on Saturday. Georgia narrowly edged the Illini in the first game on Sunday, then turned around to rout the Mercer Bears 16-6. The Bulldogs had to come back from down 3-0 in that game.
Georgia Records 1,100th Program Victory
With the 16-6 win over Mercer on Sunday, March 20, the Georgia Bulldogs recorded the 1,100th win in the history of the softball program.
Bulldogs’ Win Streak One for the Record Book
The Bulldogs strung together a 16-game win streak from Feb. 19 to March 12. The streak checks in tied for sixth-longest in program history, matching streaks from 2021, 2013, and 2008. Georgia’s longest winning streak was 25 games set in 2001-02 and 2018.
Dogs Dig the Long Ball
Georgia slugged 16 home runs in five games of the Bulldog Classic (3/4-3/6). Prior to the weekend, Georgia ranked 18th in the country with 1.31 home runs per game. After the weekend, the Bulldogs skyrocketed to fifth nationally and first in the SEC with a 1.76 average. That number has continued to rise to 1.90, the third best in the nation and first in the SEC.
Georgia in the Polls
Georgia fell a spot to No. 17 in the Week Six USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll. Georgia stayed constant in the ESPN/USA Softball poll at 21. Georgia lands at No. 30 in the latest RPI.
